June 27th 2017 – Day 60

This. Is. It. Done. Finished.

Day 60 – Trail Mile 1131.7

IMG_5598

My final day on the Ice Age Trail saw me finishing the Forestville Segment before embarking on my last segment at Sturgeon Bay.

The Sturgeon Bay Segment surely packs all of the trail into one neat package, a mix of bike trail, town walking, beach and woods before approaching the terminus in Potawatomi State Park and climbing the lookout tower for one final view over Wisconsin.

I was happy to be reunited with my former trail angel Barb for a final stint as we crossed the finishing line together, before munching her lovely celebration cupcakes.

What a journey it has been. I survived the swamp that was the north woods, the endless miles along quiet country roads, thunderstorms, torrential downpours of rain, river crossings, balancing on beaver dams and a ridiculous heatwave as well as numerous mosquito and tick attacks.

Over the past 60 days I have walked some 1100 miles and climbed 72,000ft through Wisconsin.

This is the end of my time on the Ice Age Trail, but luckily not the end of my time in Wisconsin.
Currently I feel a little lost as I don’t have anymore yellow blazes showing me the right way.
